Configuring Azure Private Link for Teradata VantageCloud Enterprise +

Available to certain Enterprise tiers

This feature is available on the following dbt Enterprise tiers:

  • Enterprise+
  • Virtual Private

The following steps walk you through the setup of a Teradata VantageCloud Azure Private Link endpoint in a dbt multi-tenant environment.

Private connection endpoints can't connect across cloud providers (AWS, Azure, and GCP). For a private connection to work, both dbt and the server (like Teradata VantageCloud) must be hosted on the same cloud provider. For example, dbt hosted on AWS cannot connect to services hosted on Azure, and dbt hosted on Azure can’t connect to services hosted on GCP.

  1. Contact your Teradata account team or Teradata Support to obtain:

    • The Azure resource alias for your Teradata Private Link Service
    • The Azure region of your Teradata environment

    The alias is generated by Azure and looks similar to:

    teradata-pls.abc12345-6789-0def-1234-56789abcdef0.eastus.azure.privatelinkservice
    dbt Azure subscription ID

    If granting access to your Teradata endpoint service requires the dbt Azure subscription ID, contact dbt Support to request it.

  2. Add the required information to the following template and submit your Azure Private Link request to dbt Support:

     Support request email template
    Subject: New Azure Multi-Tenant Private Link Request

    - Type: Teradata
    - dbt platform account URL:
    - Display name (appears in the dbt connection dropdown):
    - Teradata Private Link Service alias:
    - Port: 1025 (change if not default)
    - Teradata Azure region:
    - dbt Azure multi-tenant environment (US or EMEA):

    dbt Labs will work on your behalf to complete the private connection setup. Please allow 3-5 business days for this process to complete. Support will contact you when the endpoint is available.

  3. Once dbt Support confirms the endpoint has been provisioned and the connection has been tested, they will reply with the hostname to use when configuring your project.

Create connection in dbt​

Once you've completed the setup with dbt Support, you can configure a private endpoint in dbt:

  1. From Account settings → Projects, click + New project and select Teradata.
  2. You will see two radio buttons: Public and Private. Select Private.
  3. Select the private endpoint from the dropdown by the display name you submitted in the support ticket (this automatically populates the Host field).
  4. Configure the remaining data platform details.
  5. Test your connection and save it.
